Wind - Protection from Shades

Every year, thousands of people suffer injuries, and some even lose their lives, due to wind-blown shades on beaches.

These incidents are often caused by improperly secured or poorly designed shade devices, which can be easily lifted by gusts of wind, posing a serious threat to beachgoers.

Ensuring the safety and stability of shade devices is crucial to preventing these dangerous accidents and protecting the well-being of all who enjoy the beach.

TIPS

  1. Ensure your shade device is ASTM F3681-24 approved, see below.

  2. Be aware of your neighbor's shade devices, especially if they are upwind.

  3. Close your shade device if the winds pickup or if it seems unstable

Beach Safety Guidelines

  1. Swim safely, near a lifeguard, with a buddy, and always be aware of your surroundings.
  2. Drink water and stay hydrated.
  3. Ensure your sunblock and shade are UV 30+ rated.
  4. Ensure your shade is beach-safe compliant so it won't blow down the beach.
