Water - Beach Warning Flags

  • Double red flags means water is closed to the public.
  • Red flag is high hazard meaning high surf and/or strong currents.

  • Yellow flag is medium hazard meaning moderate surf and/or currents.

  • Green flag is low hazard meaning calm conditions, exercise caution.

  • Purple flag means dangerous marine life spotted.

Absence of flags does not assure safe waters.

TIPS

  1. Supervise children, and watch out for others in the water.

  2. Use a shade device that doesn’t block lifeguard views and is easy to move for emergency vehicles.

  3. Be cautious of water conditions and swim with a buddy.

How does it work?

The beach warning flag program uses the colors adopted by the International Lifesaving Federation, with symbols added to clarify the meaning of the flags. The program also includes the placement of interpretive signs along the beach to explain the meaning each flag used in the warning system.

Beach Safety Guidelines

  1. Swim safely, near a lifeguard, with a buddy, and always be aware of your surroundings.
  2. Drink water and stay hydrated.
  3. Ensure your sunblock and shade are UV 30+ rated.
  4. Ensure your shade is beach-safe compliant so it won't blow down the beach.
